[At first, there's just a rush of air over the mic. It stops short for a long moment, instead picking up only the normal background noise of the City. Then, softly and irritably,]

Oh, man...

[The rush picks up again-- in the other direction, not that you can really tell. It pauses again. Then picks up for a minute. Then pauses. Starts again. Then, having traversed the City four times or so, Tommy stops and sits down on a convenient bench, not tired but certainly frustrated.]

Sooner or later one of the others will-- Hey, what's-

Fine. I mean, I have no idea where we are and there's no way out, but. [There is a shrug. This is not entirely anything new, right?]

I thought it was just me, too. Where are we?

It's called the City. It's pretty much like being stuck on Long Island except that there's no way out and the crime rate is higher.

[He huffs, because 'Long Island with no way out' is not his idea of a good time.]

[Because dude, he saw you like twenty minutes ago, obviously they've both just gotten here in Tommy's mind.]

Oh, yeah, so.

There's a temporal vortex around this place. Basically when you get here time stops moving for you back home, so I've been here, uh...

[It takes him a moment to process all that, but... well, it's weird, but he's heard weirder. They've both lived weirder, right?]

Well I have a couple of roommates but I'm totally not moving you in, we don't have enough room, unless you want to sleep in my bed.

[The suggestion is followed by a raising of the eyebrows that says 'I know you don't want to']

So we'll just move back to the place that I used to live in with Kate.

And I work in a bookstore. And take care of a cow.

[The epic eyeroll confirms that suspicion, Billy. He kind of glosses over most of this though, because...]

A cow?

Her name is Jean.

Why are you taking care of a cow named Jean.

She used to belong to my boss, then he was kidnapped by Nazi's, and then he went home. I couldn't let her starve.

Shouldn't cows be on farms or something? And Nazis? Really?

She doesn't live in my apartment, Tommy.

[At least, he hoped that.]

But, if she lives on a farm, isn't there a farmer to feed her?

No farmer. She lives in a stable, and she has a little field she hangs out in in when the weather is good.

Man, you've really settled in here. Keeping livestock and everything.

[He shrugs again]

[That gets kind of a doubtful look, but sure.]

Sooo no bad guys to beat up? No Avenging to do?

[He shakes his head]

No way, man. In the past few months we've had exploding libraries and people attacked by monsters and zombie sheep.

[Blink blink.]
